Traction Therapy

In physiotherapy, a traction device is used to apply a specific and controlled amount of force in the appropriate direction for a suitable duration of time to improve movement of joints and soft tissue stretching. Traction is commonly used for stretching in the cervical or lumbar regions. In this method, the patient lies on a bed that has special features for spinal column traction and, based on the type of required traction (cervical or lumbar); the relevant slings are fastened to the patient. Then, the traction ropes are connected to the slings and with a specific force applied by the device, the desired pulling force is applied.
